Gothic City Lights by Brindle Chase

Gothic City Lights by Brindle Chase

PJVs QUICKIE POV: A unique turn on the “usual” paranormal male/female play, GOTHIC CITY LIGHTS, pairs a promiscuous heroine with a chaste virginal hero. This introduction to Chase’s writing had me highly pleased and interested in reading more. Chase spun a tale of emotional depth that was so well written that I wondered if he had experienced it himself. The novel is dubbed as an erotic paranormal romance, but unlike most erotica this one could stand on it’s own as a paranormal romance. The plot was well formed and tied together, instead of the usual erotica storyline which is a vague plot wrapped around hot and heavy sex scenes. The one flaw with the novel that I had was the ending. Chase had done his job so well to invoke that emotional roller-coaster that I really had my doubts about a Happily Ever After for these two.

REVIEW:  Lilith Templeton is half-demon, a succubus that pretty much needs to have sex to survive. After 78 years of existence she is finally able to semi-control her urges, but she still has been slowly sleeping her way through the male population in her little area of the world. A chance encounter in the super-market involving a nice man that helped carry her groceries might just change her life though. How was she supposed to know that he was an agent of the Mother Superior? Portland’s own divine angel ruler? How was she supposed to know he was married and would leave his family in a pursuit for the more carnal lifestyle after their brief liaison in the bathroom?

The Mother Superior blames Lilith, and to even out her debt Lilith needs to go on a mission for the angel. She needs to ferret out a nest of demons through their human agent and track them to their stronghold. The angels have been unable to infiltrate the crime syndicate because they lack certain darker traits that are needed. Lilith is the perfect bait for the human agent - sexually irresistible.

Upset about her mission, demons are big on vengeance and Lilith is only half-human and unable to protect herself, Mother Superior assigns angel Gabriel as her protector. They will work together on the case and try not step on each other’s toes too much. Problem: Lilith a lust demon, Gabriel: an angel of chastity - they are the exact opposite, but strangely drawn to each other.

The novel covers the attraction and “fall” of the succubus and the angel and their attempt at infiltrating the world of Coyote, the human agent of the demons. The fight that happens between Gabriel and Lilith is quite a wild ride and Chase did a great job with the whole scenario. The romance is actually quite believable. Through the entirety of the novel I was entertained, smiling and laughing aloud. Not to mention the sexy scenes definitely kicked up the heat. I think I want to be just like Lilith.

The down part came at the end of the novel. It just tied together a little too nicely. I spent most of the novel really not believing that the Lilith and Gabriel would ever get together with Gabriel’s status as an angel intact. Therefor the outcome I found unbelievable, nice, but unbelievable. It made me happy though.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Adults only. Fans of angels and demons should really enjoy.

I just wanted to make one point of clarification for your readers, that being, I'm a male author. I know for most, that doesn't make a difference, but I also know for a few, it does.

*nudges Larissa* I'm still waiting on your review! Hehehe. =oP

Thanks for this, it good to know that there is erotica out there where the sex isn't the main focus of the story. Gratutious sex destroys a book for me. It should be there for a reason or not there at all.

i like the sound of this. It's on my - check out further list.
