Richelle Mead does not disappoint in her Georgina Kincaid series. The series that focuses on Georgina, a succubus with a conscience and an assistant manager of a large Seattle bookstore that finds herself in a who done it mystery of immortal proportions.
Georgina, has the ability to shape-shift, and almost as punishment, she carries the guise of a very attractive female that men literally can’t resist. But, Georgina, as a succubus, will suck the life out of anyone she gets close to, so she only preys on the morally corrupt, instead of going for the “nice guys” she is constantly attracting.
In this book, Georgina attracts the attention of her favorite author Seth Mortenson, and a sexy and irresistible patron, Roman Smith. She is drawn more to Roman who’s sexy charm and wit are leading Georgina astray from her promise to not date, for fear of sucking away the life force of anyone she becomes involved.
Yet, as Georgina is being tempted away from her love chaste life, murders and assaults are occurring in the immortal world. Beings are killed that are not supposed to be killable. When the deaths seem a little too close to home, Georgina is pulled into a mystery that dates back millennia…
Succubus Blues, while not my favorite Mead series, was highly enjoyable. Mead’s ability to create characters with such depth and personality has to be one of her best traits as a writer. Her main characters, while different in nature are always great women, strong of will, yet flawed enough to make them relatable. Georgina’s sense of humor, wit and slight self-loathing made her another epic character in the long line of great Mead characters. My fav is still the Dark Swan, Eugenie (Dark Swan series - read review), but Georgina comes in a close second.
The plot was well drawn out, the world was believable. I’m more apt to believe in evil with a bit of good and good with a bit of evil – than evil incarnate. Everyone, has free will, right? Even angels and demons.
The one thing I did not like about this book was the predictability of the bad guy. I pinpointed who the murderer would be almost at his introduction. There were a few twists that were supposed to throw you off the trail, but I knew they were twists. So, at the reveal, I was a bit disappointed. There was no other characters that could have been the murderer, so it was rather obvious.
Other than that, the book was very enjoyable and I recommend this to adult readers who enjoy a good urban fantasy. I wouldn’t consider this a paranormal romance, because the focus is not on the romance…and of course I think it is almost impossible for Georgina to be in a monogamous happily-ever-after relationship.

I absolutely LOVE this series! I tore through all of them in a couple of days... they get better with each book I think. I love the Dark Swan series too tho.... have not read her Vampire Academy books yet!
I haven't read this author, but I did pick up a copy of Vampire Academy, can't wait to get a chance to read it, but its down the line on my TBR. :) This book sounds interesting..lol
This is one of my favorite series! I read the first four books back-to-back and now am impatiently waiting book 5. I also love her VA series but haven't picked up her Dark Swan series. Did you see she's coming to NO?
Now I'm intrigued about the Dark Swan series. I'll have to check it out.
I haven't gotten around to reading this series yet. I just got Blood Promise from the library so I'll finish that series before starting this one although I have had the books out but never got around to reading them. I've read the first Black Swan book.
I haven't read anything by Richelle Mead aside from the VA series. I'm not sure if I'll try this out, not really a fan of non-monogamous heroines. Haha. Great review, btw!
