PJVs {Not So} QUICKIE POV: I just could not get into this book. I found the main characters rather lacking and could not get into Sisters Red because of that. Scarlett, the scared sister was just too much. She was over-focused and stoic, I couldn't relate to her behavior. Rosie was the polar opposite. The characters were just too forced into these positions it didn't seem natural. Just everything about this book seem forced. It was as if the author had bullet points and she checked them off as she achieved them.
- Disturbed sister, haunted by her past √
- Weak, sister to be protected √
- Hot guy √
- Romance √
- Jealousy √
- Big Baddie √
- Impending doom √
- Something different √
Because of this outline type approach to a YA novel, I didn't get into the attraction. It was just there. "I didn't like Silas before he left...but now after a year away, boy is he hot. Now all I can do is think about him..." {Rosie POV}
I really think this might have been better played out as an adult novel. Then there could have been some more steam with the romance, there would be no need to have the threat of child services, which I don't know how they didn't get involved from the onset. It just didn't make sense that these children were living alone since their grandmother was brutally ripped apart by a werewolf and no one noticed. Not to mention, their behaviors was not that of 16 year olds, because of what they had experienced, so that YA voice wasn't there.
I was quite disappointed because I was so very impressed with AS YOU WISH by Pearce. I also think she is a rather entertaining person herself and think her tweets and VLOGs are usually hilarious. Maybe she should abandon the darker threads and stick with the more cotton candy approaches. Which is an odd sentiment for me, because I'm a fan of dark.
There is a second in this series, called Sweetly. I will not be reading, but hope to read other things from this author.

ohhhh thats gotta hurt.....I think I liked this one but agree that it lacked a true YA voice due to the everything surrounding the plot. THe cover was fun...:D
I'm sorry that you didn't like it. I didn't know that there was a second book.
I agree that it might've been more suited as an adult book with a little more steam. I liked it a lot, but there was something about it that kept me from thinking it was awesome, you know?
I wasn't able to finish it. I've got it in audio and can't stomach the lousy southern accents (I AM southern, so I'm picky). And it just seemed too...cliched, I guess, while wrapped up in a new and interesting story. I agree that it would have been more interesting as an adult read.
Thanks for the honest review. I look forward to reading it and seeing what you mean.

I do love your honesty! Great post as always!
This is one of those books that was decent when I read it (I had issues with the abusive relationship between the sisters though) and now as I've had time to digest and process it, isn't so great. I think the hype surrounding this book definitely ended up hurting it in the end. I'm sorry reading it was such a bummer for you. D:
I had wanted to read this, but I kept seeing comments like those here (ex: Emily's) and your review... I think it's a skip. The Book Smugglers had a different take on why they didn't like the book.

@Tina - I really really like that cover, also. But...it was very reminiscent of the Wicked cover.
@Sam - I actually didn't write this review until a month later. The book was like a weird ulcer, it just sits with you. At first I did get into it, I couldn't put it down and then like SNAP it just set me off.
@Juju, Read & Savannah - I hate writing bad reviews. And unfortunately it is the only time the authors seem to sit up and take notice which makes it even worse. Thanks for the affirmation.
@Emily - I think it is the hidden messages in this book. You don't notice them at first, but as they slowly seep it they become a sour taste in your mouth.
@Jennifer - woosh. Wow what a post by the Smugglers. Thanks for passing it on. I wouldn't have read the book if I would have read that first. They got deep. I'm not that deep, LOL.
@Kait - don't get me started about accents. From New Orleans, and I hate when they show us on TV talking with a French/Drawl odd.
