Once in a Full Moon by Ellen Schreiber

Once in a Full Moon by Ellen Schreiber

PJVs QUICKIE POV: Yeah. No. Loved the cover on this one. Unfortunately that was all I really loved about this book.

REVIEW: Celeste is a popular girl. But, you know, a nice popular girl. She's from the right side of town and has the right kind of friends that tow her along for the popular ride. They tell her who to talk to, who to date and even what to say to a wrong number when they call on the phone. But Celeste is ok with this. She's along for the ride - all she wants to do is help old people and secretly dream of a unified town where everyone gets along and loves each other unconditionally.

Then a new guy comes to class. New guy from the wrong side of town that is smoking hot, but no one cares - because his address is on the riverside instead of the suburb side. Celeste is ok to admire from afar though as she goes about her vapid little life doing what her vapid little friends tell her to do. She even is forced into going to a psychic to have her reading done in the wrong side of town and because she needs to be away from her friends for like two seconds so she can have her own thoughts she decides to walk home in the snow. But oops! A FREAK blizzard! And then there are wolves attacking! OMG! And oh! Brandon - the new guy - comes out of no where {cause he is just walking along in the blizzard just minding his own business} and he like totally fights off a PACK OF WOLVES with his bare hands (he might have had a stick) and gets bit by one. Just one bite.

Now Celeste and Brandon are fighting the big virus of Love - but and there are some buts - they can't give in, because what would her friends say? They want her to date the vapid football player not the formerly popular but now might technically be a werewolf boy from the wrong side of the river. And then the whole he got bit by a wolf and grew a goatee one full moon so he might be a werewolf - and dating werewolves is a total no-no! Can Celeste and Brandon's love survive??

Ok, so the plot was bad. Really bad. The whole blizzard and pack of wolves just had me going WTH? That might have worked if he was already a supernatural - which I thought at first - but the fact that it is a potential transition novel had me just shaking my head in disbelief.

On top of the plot inconsistencies, the characters were horrible. I didn't like a single one of the them. Celeste was pathetic. Her friends were monsters. When Ivy grabbed the phone out of Celeste's hand I wanted to freakin' strangle her. Brandon was like a non-entity. Yeah, he was hot, yeah. What else did he have going for him?

The light, selfish and comedic tone works in Schreiber's other series Vampire Kisses (I only read the first one, so I can't really tell you if the other books are good), it just did not work in Once in a Full Moon.

RECOMMENDATIONS: This is a very childish novel and might not work for a mature audience.

This is the second bad review I've read of this one, so I think I'll be giving it a miss. The other review I read also pointed out that it would be suitable for a younger audience. I like the cover, though! :)

This is the first review I've read on this one. I'm not sure if I'll like it, but I will still give it a go since I've already got it on netgalley. Great review :)

I read this one as well and I totally agree with you. It was to predictable for one thing and the only character I even really took any liking to was Celeste.

This was a very funny review. Sometimes it's fun to read about bad books.

I read her first book, Vampire Kisses and found it a bit childish. I liked your review but I think I will give this one a miss.

Thanks for the honest review. I probably would have picked this up based on the cover and summary, but now I think I'll pass.

Ouch. I've read several bad reviews on this one. I got it on Netgalley, it sounds so good! But I think I may be skipping this one.

Thanks for the honest review!

I liked the first few Vampire Kisses books, but they were really more fun, light reads than substantial books in a lot of ways. Your synopsis for this one made me snort out loud... doesn't sound like something I'm going to be picking up. Thanks for the honest review. :)

Looks like we had similar thoughts on this book.

As soon as I got to the goatee part, I died. I'm still unsure if he turned into a werewolf or just went through puberty.
