Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card Giveaway

If you haven't read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, I highly recommend it. Ender's Game is one of those books that defines your existence - you know - who you were before reading Ender's Game and who you are after reading Ender's Game. Call me silly, but it was that powerful for me - and thus, I read the book once a year to reenact the initial feelings I had upon reading the book. Ender meant something to me as a child on first reading, he became a role model for me to try to base my life path on, and then reading as an adult he became my own child and evoked a new set of feelings. Therefor, Orson Scott Card is by far one of my favorite authors - and I've elevated him into some kind of godlike position in authordom. Yes, I'm letting my weird out today.

That is why when I begged the ladies at Simon & Schuster for just a crumb from OSCs boots, and instead got to do a giveaway - I was stoked. So that means you my readers can potentially win OSC's latest young adult novel. Scheduled for release tomorrow, just by commenting on this post.

A powerful secret. A dangerous path.

Rigg is well trained at keeping secrets. Only his father knows the truth about Rigg's strange talent for seeing the paths of people's pasts. But when his father dies, Rigg is stunned to learn just how many secrets Father had kept from him--secrets about Rigg's own past, his identity, and his destiny. And when Rigg discovers that he has the power not only to see the past, but also to change it, his future suddenly becomes anything but certain.

Rigg's birthright sets him on a path that leaves him caught between two factions, one that wants him crowned and one that wants him dead. He will be forced to question everything he thinks he knows, choose who to trust, and push the limits of his talent…or forfeit control of his destiny.

Hm ... that's a tough question ... I think a book that changed my life was Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier coupled with Jane Eyre - something about the woman who thinks so little of herself and her progression to the point, at the end, where she identifies herself as a real character - it is a wonderufl thing to behold, and it got me looking critically of other books.

Thanks for the contest!

That is a heck of a difficult question, but I will go with A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah. It's his personal account as a child soldier in Sierra Leone and how he was fortunate enough to escape. It is an eye-opening, thankful for your life, you will never complain again type of read, no doubt. It fueled my human rights passion even more.

Thanks for this contest. This book is hot one for me!

Can I confess to having never read any OSC books, even though I've heard a lot about them online? Maybe I'll finally pick one up, and start with Ender's Game.

Not entering because I'm in the UK, but the book sounds really good!

There have been so many wonderful books that I've read in my life. Georgette Heyer's The Grand Sophy introduced me to romance and I've never stopped. I've branched out into all kinds of genres, but most still have that romantic element and happily ever after.

There are a lot of books that have had a profound effect on me in one way or another over the years, but the Little House on the Prairie Series by Laura Ingalls Wilder is essentially the books that got me started reading on my own for pleasure, and that was a HUGUUGUGe impact in my life.

Please enter me in the giveaway.

Twilight changed m life. I quit highschool in 10th grade. I was not a very good reader. When the movie twilight came out all the hype got me to buy it. I was never a good reader in school I was actually in reading lab. I wanted more of twilight so i read the book. I was hooked i read all four in a matter of days. It truely sharpened my re4ading skills in the process. Now im a reviewer of books and Read all the time. I have over 200 books and a blog. and im an advocate of illiteracy. I donate the books i win to Middletown High School.

Wow! This book sounds awesome! I haven't read Ender's Game yet (I know, shame...) but my best friend and my sister have been pushing it hard for years now. Maybe I'll have to bump it higher! (But I won't tell them a blogger made me do it. ;) )

Anyway, the book that changed my life was Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, which is why it continues to be my favorite book of all time. It changed the way I see books, and that books 'speak' to me.

I would love to win Card's newest book! (Oh, and since you love him so much- I have an uncle who spent a few months with Card when they were in their early 20s.)

Oh my, I have to pick one??? I would have to say that the book that changed my life might be the first one that made me cry - it made me discover my love of reading and showed me what a moving experience reading can be - the book was Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. I still my much loved and read copy that I bought from a school book fair in 4th grade in December of 1990. Yes, that means I am about to turn 30. Egads.

Oh, man! I'm a big fan of Mr. Card's books - The Ender Wiggin and Alvin Maker series' were fantastic, as were some of the stand alone novels, like Songmaster. I would love a chance to win this one, thanks!

I am now following your blog and following you on Twitter. :)

The book that changed my life was The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The main character, Charlie, spoke to me personally and, for the first time, I just felt like somebody out there actually "got it" and what everything in this whole world means, at least, in the same way I do. I had loved reading for a few years before finding that book, but when I read Perks (the first time), I finally understood that good books, a good story, honest characters and great writing... all of these things, put together, can really change the world - at least for one person. But that's enough.

Thanks!

If I Stay by Gayle Forman would have to be my choice if you're asking me which book changed my life. The whole theme of the novel is to think of all the positives in your life even if it seems like there's nothing worth living for. I have referred to this book when I have thought of possibly turning to suicide. The story is just beautiful. It changed my frame of mind on life, and that's why I say it changed my life. (:

I am delighted to have found your site and will be a follower. I have read some of your book reviews and can feel the passion and honesty you put forth in writing them... for that I thank you.

There have been more than one book that has changed my life or perspective. The first was a children's picture book titled: Don Quixote. It was my first book ever and started me on the road to reading for fun. Then, came Conan the Destroyer by Robert E. Howard that I found in a local drugstore when I was fourteen. A year later I discovered The Hobbit in a gaming store. Up to that point I did not know that fantasy fiction even existed. My family was more literary oriented. The Classics and all. Soon I found Science Fiction through Ray Bradbury, Ben Bova, Ursula LeGuin, et al. That changed the direction of my thinking and opened up all sorts of possibilities for the future.

I am soon to be 58 years old and I am still discovering that almost everything I read can have a profound impact upon me and my thought life. Ender's Game is one as well. I am a huge fan and scoop up every book that I see his name on, fiction as well as non.

Thank you for your wonderful site... it is refreshing, and who knows... it might change my life someday ;)

This is an extremely difficult question to answer, I love books to death, and many have changed my life, but I suppose if I had to pick one it would have to be George Orwell's 1984. Not two months ago I finished reading The Hunger Games trilogy and it brought me back to 1984. Though many of my peers read the book in high school, I experienced it for the first time as an adult and it put a lot about the ways of bureaucracy and the ways and means of the world in perspective for me. I have to give big ups to Suzanne Collins for laying out for the YA reader, what Orwell laid out in his classic and important work.

Pick me, pick me ... I just started Ender's Game on audiobook and I'm lovin it.
