PJVs QUICKIE POV:
I’m kicking in gear my slacker tendencies and reading or rather, listening to the series that I should have read a long time ago. Thanks to audible and their first in series sale. Audio books for under $5 you can’t beat that. So, what does that mean? Yes, I finally got to experience Harry Dresden. We’ve been flirting for awhile. I would pick him up, but then I would get distracted by a girl in leather next to him and put him back down. I have an Urban Fantasy taste that usually entails a female lead. (This is giving me the wrong idea! I can imagine what it is doing for ya’ll) After reading/listening to Harry Dresden, I’m not going to push my leather clad female leads away, but I guess now I can say Urban Fantasy isn’t exactly a female run show. I’m now smitten with Harry and found a new series to love.

REVIEW:
Harry Dresden, wizard, paranormal investigator, finder of lost stuff. Most of his calls are people that ask him “Is this a joke?” But he carries on, even though his rent is a month past due. Luckily, Dresden is technically one of a kind. The only wizard out in the open, so when Chicago PD has a case that can’t be explained by ‘normal’ means, they call him.

A horrendous double murder, where the couple’s hearts were literally ripped from their chests, has Dresden latching on to the case. It’s Black Magic of the worst kind, but it is also the ability to pay his rent check. He has no problem with helping the police out...that is until the person behind the murders become aware of Harry and then the magic literally hits the fan.

A very intense and involved story that mixes a Sam Spade type atmosphere with magic. Harry Dresden is a very likable and flawed character that you could relate to. The plot unveiled itself nicely and I really couldn’t figure it out until the end, even though the clues were there. I enjoyed this book and know that I will move on to the second soon.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
This is an adult novel with some violence, a bit of language and some sexual innuendos, but nothing too graphic or descriptive. This is safe for mature teens and adults.

I only read the first three in this series, but I really enjoyed them. I need to pick up the next few because I love Harry Dresden and the world Butcher created. Nice review!

I absolutely love this series. I think the books just keep getting better as Harry's situations become even more complicated. I can't wait for the next one!

Hi Parajunkee,
First thing first, I like the combination of vampire, demon, and magic elements. But, I'm not really sure whether the storyline catches my attention or not. Maybe I've to dig more on this book to find out. Thanks for your review Parajunkee.

YES.... The Dresden Files are the best, and each book keeps getting better (unlike some series, which fizzle out). The audiobooks are especially good - Spike from Buffy does the voice!

Hi! I am so glad that you liked it. I am a huge Dresden fan and I have read all of them. I think that as good as the first book is, they get even better as the series goes on! I hope you get a chance to read more!

I LOVE Harry Dresden (did you know there's a one-season show from SyFy based on Harry Dresden? It's not bad & I wish they'd continued it. Had potential.). The books, though, they just get stronger and more intense as they go on. I'm salivating for the next one in the series as there was a HUGE cliffhanger in CHANGES!!
