ARC provided by Author in exchange for an honest review.

WARNING!  This review will contain spoilers if you have not read the first two in the series. Please read my review of Storm Born & Thorn Queen, but don't judge, it was one of my first reviews.

PJVs QUICKIE POV:
I am torn. Ripped apart and splattered with what has just happened to me. It would seem that Ms. Mead has been taking notes from Karen Marie Moning on how to give her readers heart palpitations. All I can say is that I have never wanted to choke a fictional character so badly as I now want to choke and shake and slap Eugenie. But, I can't tell you why because it would be a total spoiler. So, here is some fluff. This is a great series. Urban Fantasy in it's finest. You must read it...and...if you are a fan of the series already, you should be running to your local book store and buying this one today. Don't even let them put it on the shelf...just grab it out of the shipping box.

REVIEW:
THORN QUEEN left us with Eugenie and Dorian on the brink of war. Katrice, ruler of the Rowan land did not liken to the fact that her son was murdered by Dorian and in retribution declared war on the Thorn Land and Eugenie. IRON CROWNED begins and the Otherworld is still in war. Dorian and Eugenie are fighting back Kartrice's forces and trying to minimize casualties at the same time. Most of Eugenie's time is spent in the Otherworld, she is showing acceptance of her life as Storm King's daughter and a fae ruler. She is also in love with Dorian and content in their relationship.

Eugenie is desperate to end the war though, and when an old seer approaches her with a quick way to accomplish this she is hard pressed to dismiss the idea. When Dorian backs it and suggest that she brings none other than Kiyo with her to accomplish this task...well she thinks she has to do this if it means an end to the war. Yet, it is dangerous and she doesn't even know if Kiyo will help her...can she talk him into going with her and if he goes, if they succeed does it mean the end of the war?

Yes, I know Kiyo is back! I can't get into it because of spoilers, but I can tell you that overall the book was well done. There were a lot of turns that I didn't expect and the whole thing left me with a sort of out-of-body experience. I didn't agree with Eugenie on most of the decisions she made throughout the novel (but this is usually the case with her - never agree until the end) but I think this is what makes the series so great. This is a person that is very different from me and my usual UF heroine and here I am all about her. It makes it great and frustrating and enjoyable because it is not the norm. Now, I'm desperately in need of book #4.

Are you thinking the same thing as I was? Kiyo? Kiyo? I thought we were done with him. So, here is my rant, and I shall hide it, because it is probably rife with spoilage...

RECOMMENDATIONS:
This is a mature novel, there are explicit sex scenes that are only suitable for adult audiences. Recommended for fans of Karen Marie Moning's Fever series.

You're not the only one who wanted to slap Eugenie! I was SO frustrated with her in this book. I'm sick of the back and forth from Kiyo to Dorian. And I'm annoyed with all of them-Kiyo for obvious reasons, Eugenie for all her terrible decisions, and Dorian for what he did, although I think Dorian is the least frustrating out of the three. That being said, I still liked Iron Crowned. If Richelle can make me feel so many emotions while reading (even if those feelings were mainly shock and frustration), then it means I'm invested in the story. I agree, though, Eug should take a time out from guys!

@rachel - I really did like this book, but the BS with Kiyo felt like Eugenie had left her brain in her well - cookie. But, then again I've fallen back with an ex in a time of dumbness and emotional craziness, so I can see what lure it had.

@Mariya - glad to help out. LOL

@Must - I'm surprised Border's is getting new books at all considering they aren't paying their debts. If I were a publisher I wouldn't send them anything LOL. I have a feeling the KIYO button is going to go unused.

I completely agree! Eugenie needs to do some serious self-examination. I think the predicament she finds herself in at the end will actually help her grow up a lot (at least, I hope so!).

That said, I had really hoped that we were done with Kiyo. I've hated him from the beginning and now I have even more reason too. Not to absolve Eugenie for her sins, but he's a huge problem that she just needs to exorcise from her life. Love Dorian! His mistakes are typical of his nature and pretty forgivable compared to everyone else's.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates Kiyo. I'm totally team Dorian. How hot was the scene with the two of them sitting at the table.

I laughed (and nodded in agreement) all through your rant - especially the last bit. I love this series, but was frustrated (and very annoyed) for a great deal of this book.

I always like reading these reviews, even if I disagree with the final conclusion. To be honest, the only reason I read reviews about THIS series is to see if someone disliked/hated it as much as me. Right now, it seems I have a much harsher stance on it. I mean, I absolutely loved the first book. I'm pretty sure it was the book that got me into urban fantasy.

Maybe that was why when I read the second book and...oh god, what a trainwreck! From the very beginning of the second book, I hated Eugenie (I liked her in the first book and went in wanting to like her again, so it was disappointing). She whined about being queen (a position she brought on herself), couldn't see things outside of how they (negatively)affected her, made stupid decisions and didn't understand why there were negative consequences afterwards, and could not decide between two equally unappealing men (although that is a personal gripe rather than writing issues).

Eventually I'll get around to reading this book so I can give it a fair review of my own, but I'm not excited about it. Looks as though nothing has changed from the second to third book.
