Quickie Giveaway: All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin

Macmillan Children's Publishing would like to present  the first book in Gabrielle Zevin's groundbreaking new Birthright series, "All These Things I've Done", show off the trailer and offer you a chance to win the title! Take a look at this compelling book trailer and then tally up your entries with the rafflecopter widget below. Don't forget to leave a blog comment (only thing required to enter) telling me what you think of the trailer. All I know is I really want some chocolate now...

In 2083, chocolate and coffee are illegal, paper is hard to find, water is carefully rationed, and New York City is rife with crime and poverty. And yet, for Anya Balanchine, the sixteen-year-old daughter of the city's most notorious (and dead) crime boss, life is fairly routine. It consists of going to school, taking care of her siblings and her dying grandmother, trying to avoid falling in love with the new assistant D.A.'s son, and avoiding her loser ex-boyfriend. That is until her ex is accidently poisoned by the chocolate her family manufactures and the police think she's to blame. Suddenly, Anya finds herself thrust unwillingly into the spotlight--at school, in the news, and most importantly, within her mafia family.

Before you enter, here are the details:

  • Please read Parajunkee's View giveaway rules & regulations (about section) before you enter

Honestly, I don't really like this trailer very much. It doesn't tell you a lot about the plot of the book and the woman's voice is very generic. The synopsis sounds really interesting, but the trailer alone wouldn't make me wanna read this book.

I think the blurb is way better than the trailer.

Richard said...

The trailer gives me mixed feelings...

The synopsis makes the book look awesome. The trailer, not so awesome. Based on the blurb I'd read it, the trailer I wouldn't.

Not a fan of the trailer either, but find the book blurb to be really interesting

I really didn't like the voice. It lacked emotion. It felt like she was reading a script, but this is definitely a book I'm looking forward to reading.

I have to agree with everyone else--the voiceover wasn't appealing at all. I don't usually judge books based on their trailers, though.

Since everyone said the trailer wasn't very good, I didn't watch it lol. But the summary of the book sounds very interesting.

The trailer wasn't that great. I didn't like the voice and it was pretty boring. But I am anxious to read it! :)

I agree with most others. The trailer was just meh, but the summary of the book sounds great!

The trailer is awesome! I love that the book is about the future!!

Well as far as the trailer..it doesnt really tell you much..but kind of leaves you wanting to know about it..so I guess that is good, I mean, your more liable to go check the book out

Saribonita said...

I think that this book is worthy of a better trailer! It was too short, and a little vague! But the book itself looks and sounds awesome! I definitely do want to read.

Munnaza said...

I have to agree with everyone else - the trailer felt a little lukewarm to the absolutely intriguing summary. I'll definitely be checking this book out, but not because of the trailer.

I liked the chocolate hearts dropping. I thought it was thought provoking. The things she says don't seem to be terrible and yet.... I'm interested. That's the point of a trailer, right?

It's interesting, but it could have been better. Didn't care for the voice and the summary makes the book sound much more interesting!

Lolarific said...

I always think the blurbs are better. Although every now and then you come across an awesome book trailer.

Riv Re said...

The trailer is very impressive. I love the voice-over. It's all very mysterious...

Rebecca V said...

The trailor doesn't really seem to sum up anything. It only made me confused. But the book still sounds great.

Alyssa said...

Honestly, this trailer seems boring! thankfully, the blurb seems interesting though!!

Violette said...

This looks really awesome. I loved the summary more than the trailer but the trailer had awesome music. ;D

I think that the trailer doesn't give enough information to get me excited about the book. It makes me want chocolate more than the book.

I rarely watch book trailers before I read the book, usually they end up turning me off from said book.
I think this books sounds goos, so I'll watch the trailer at some point, but not today. =)

Bookish in a Box said...

The trailer feels a little slow, while the blurb makes the book sound tense and exciting. I'm not a huge fan of book trailers though so maybe I'm biased.

Lyssa Anne said...

I need some chocolate and coffee now. Wish I could have a mocha latte, but then I would be up all night. :-(

I didn't get much out of the trailer. Love the blurb though. Sounds really good.

The trailer is intriguing, it definitely has my attention. But I think it may leave a little too much to the imagination and left me wanting more information...and lots of chocolate.

But I do wanna read the book now.

Tiffany Drew said...

I can't say this is the best trailer I have ever seen, but it did get me a little more excited to read this book, if that was even possible lol.

May-Day_Aura said...

Ooh, the book looks deliciously dark! Hehehe, I couldn't resist. =P The book does look good, but I'm not too keen on the trailer. I heard about this book elsewhere and was attracted to it, but the trailer is a bit confusing. If I hadn't read your blurb or read anything else about it, I wouldn't really know what the story was. And I think knowing the details makes the book more appealing than just knowing a girl has done something "bad".

Sophia Chang said...

Wow, I'm not a big sweet-tooth but now I want chocolate too...

The trailer's strength is giving us a hook - almost sounded like a jacket flap or query. It was a bit low-budg, compared to something like Delirium's trailer, but still captivated my interest!

Mimi Valentine said...

I don't know why, but I tend to adore summaries much better than trailers -- those are what make me want to read a book! And the synopsis for this one sounds extra amazing! :)

There's no way I could live in a world where chocolate is banned LOL! It's not possible!

Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway!

I agree that you don't get a whole lot of information from the trailer, but it still makes me want to read the book. It just sounds so different from anything else I've read. Really looking forward to this one.

The trailer is visually simple but effective in getting the story across focusing on sentences.

I always have a hard time with book trailers. Things never look the way I imagined them. This one was alright, but it didn't stand out from the others I've seen lately.

It was kind of robotic...but I like that it did not give much away! I actually hate all trailers!

I already knew about the book before I saw the trailer, and it didn't expand on anything about the plot. The last line, though - "May God forgive me for this and all these things I've done" makes it sound as if Anya was confessing (a religious confession, not a criminal one!), which would explain the emotionless voice of the narrator, and, of course, the title. That was interesting.
Overall, the synopsis and the trailer didn't seem to be about the same book. That probably wasn't the effect anyone was aiming for.

The book sounds really interesting. I have this tendency to ignore trailers, mostly because I just get a lot from the cover and the synopsis. The only thing a trailer really does is make me want the book more, but in this case the trailer didn't really do anything for me .

Ozymandias said...

Yeah, I'm a little torn on the trailer myself even though the book itself sounds incredible!

Thank you for the giveaway!
