Eve of Samhain by Lisa Sanchez

Eve of Samhain by Lisa Sanchez
Won  Eve of Samhain from Lisa Sanchez hur-self.

PJVs QUICKIE POV: A sucker for rippling muscles, snarky behavior, crass language, egotistical showmanship, sleek cars, rippling muscles, shaved heads, tattoos, Doc Martins, rippling muscles... did I mention muscles? Well, I'm a sucker for them. And they were a bit predominant in this little tale...

REVIEW: Opening scene starts with our heroine, Ryann Pierce,  defending her considerable assets as she traverses the jungle of the  her place of work, a night club called Fire & Ice. Tired, annoyed and at her wits end with the ass-grabbers in her section she is literally frozen in place as the hottest guy on the planet steps in to her section. But, then he opens his mouth. And while a sexy Irish brogue accompanies an even sexier voice, a line like, "You there, get us some booze, eh." doesn't make for a happy introduction.

Quinn, does manage to redeem himself though when he stands up for a random woman at the bar and then later comes to Ryann's rescue. Ryann starts to realize that there's more to meet the eye when it comes to Sex-God Quinn. Literally. You, see Quinn happens to be 500+ years old and for the last couple of centuries has been living under a curse laid on him by the Queen of Faeries herself that makes his touch orgasmic and "being" with him is literally addictive. So, while the women throw themselves at his feet, Quinn can never get close to them because his loving leads to madness.

This makes for a pretty rocky start in regards to his and Ryann's relationship. Not to mention, think about the baggage Ryann has to deal with - 500 years of exes? No touching. Super secrets. On top of that, Ryann is being stalked by something quite evil and they are not sure when it will strike again, or why it wants her.

Packed full of potty language, a lot of teasing and a plot that got thicker and thicker the deeper you got into the novel, Sanchez's debut Eve of Samhain packed a considerable punch and was quite literally a f***ing good read. Most entertaining were the quips and one-liners that spurted off the page. Fun words like "asshat" and phrases like "hide-the-pickle". It was like a veritable rainbow of modern and crass colloquialisms and I learned a few new ways to refer to my girlie bits.

In the negative side of things, the novel from what I noticed, could use a bit of refinement. A little more explanation in some areas, a little less in others. I wanted to see a bit more bad guy, it was kind of like in the outline of the story every now again there would be an "INSERT BAD GUY HERE" and then he would appear. Nothing major, though,  that detracted from the likability of the story, I just think that area of the novel could be expanded more. And this is the lech in me coming out...but I wouldn't have minded a few more sexy scenes. Chalk it up to Ryann's inexperience, but she might have amped up the seduction. C'mon girl, break out the lingerie...a little "popping it like it's hot". What guy can resist that, eh?

A very good read though, and I am looking forward to Sanchez's next novel. What it is I have no idea...but I'm hoping it might involve Ryann's goth roommate Martha Stewart. Yup, that is her name. I think she might need some love...

RECOMMENDATIONS: Full of cursing and adult topics, I wouldn't recommend this for a younger reader. Fans of PNR should really enjoy. Books such as Mead's Succubus, or Eugenie series should enjoy.

I LOVE this book! the sexual tension throughout had me reaching for the ice! Quinn was such a smartass with his quick witted mouth, but i loved him and Ryann together.

Can't wait for Martha's book next, she was a wonderful secondary character.

great review hun! =)
