2011 Fall Television Line-up

2011 Fall Television Line-up

There are a few (paranormal, scifi, fatnasy) shows on the Television Fall Line-up that might catch your attention, I know they've caught mine...

ON ABC:

Once Upon A Time - Sunday's on ABC

And they all lived happily ever after – or so everyone was led to believe. Emma Swan knows how to take care of herself. She's a 28-year-old bail bonds collector who's been on her own ever since she was abandoned as a baby.
But when the son she gave up years ago finds her, everything starts to change. Henry is now 10 years old and in desperate need of Emma's help. He believes that Emma actually comes from an alternate world and is Snow White and Prince Charming's missing daughter.

ONCE UPON A TIME looks like a show that I MUST check-out. Combining real world with that abstract fairy-tale setting, from the previews you don't know what is real or what is imagine by the kid. Looks like it might have all the really interesting tid-bits that a good primetime drama needs. Also, with the writers of LOST at this shows helm I think this one just might be a winner.

Then for a Mid Season showing, I'm excited to check out the HORROR show THE RIVER - one word. Freaky. The guy from Paranormal Activity had his hands in the creation along with Steven Spielberg.

ABC also has a few non-paranormal flavors that warrant maybe taking a look:
  • Subpurgatory - A teen that is forced to live in suburbia Hell - where the moms are soccor zombies and if you don't wear mall clothes you aren't cool. It looks funny and snarky.
  • Pan-Am - with Christina Ricci (love her!) about the Pan-Am stewardesses in the 50s and 60s. This looks really smart and hopefully will not become a Desperate Housewives in the air.
  • Charlie's Angel's - produced by Drew Barrymore (XOXO) will be a reproduction of the 1970s original
ON CBS:

A Gifted Man
- Friday's on CBS

A GIFTED MAN is a drama about a brilliant, charismatic surgeon whose life changes forever when his deceased ex-wife begins teaching him the meaning of life from the "hereafter."
Patrick Wilson stars in what I'm percieving to be a Grey's Anatomy
but with a dead ex-wife to give it a little different flavor then the 20 other shows about the glam life of doctors. I personally don't believe I will be watching this particular show, I've never been a fan of emergency room dramas.
CBS just does not have much in it's line up this Fall that looks appetizing, I'm pertty disappointed. But I guess with long standing shows like their Monday night comedy line-ups, Survivor, the CSI shows etc, they didn't really have to add a lot to their repetoire.

ON CW:

The Secret Circle
- Thursdays on CW - follows The Vampire Diaries

CW has vampires, gossiping teenagers and sexy paranormal hunters...they were just missing a few other paranormals to spice up their primetime line-up. In steps THE SECRET CIRCLE - with witches!
Orphaned teen Cassie has to move in with her grandmother Jane in the beautiful small town of Chance Harbor, Washington. All the residents seem to already know Cassie and are hinting at some strange heritage that she might possess -- Cassie is from a long line of witches. Will this just be a Gossip Girl meets The Vampire Diaries in the CWs never-ending quest to make the NEXT big teen television drama? I think it might have potential. With shows like PRETTY LITTLE LIARS making big splashes and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES with it's die hard followers - teens seem to be eating these shows up! I know I'll be watching, even if I'm not in their 13 - 21 target market!
The CW will also have a kind of sick new addition called H8R - haters. It's a reality based show with A.C. Slater as the host (what doesn't he host??), where celebs that are used to being trashed on celeb blogs and mags confront these "Haters". The preview shows Snookie getting all raunch on some guy playing pool...should be one big fat HOT MESS that will have the Mtv gen loving it. I might catch a few shows but fight scenes always get me shakey...

ON FOX:

Terra Nova
- Monday's on FOX

Fox has been promoing the heck out of this one. I'm seeing this trailer 24/7. Concept is that the world is going through a slow descent into apocalpyse and the only way to save themselves is
to set up a colony in the WAY past (85 million years ago). Think dinosaurs meets Lost. It looks interesting but I don't know how FOX could hold up this mega budget! Steven Spielberg is at the helm for this one also - and when you are used to making movies a budget of $4 million an episode looks like nothing, but compared to it's competition on Monday night (How I Met Your Mother & Dancing With the Stars) is it going to make it?? Great shows have gone down not because of not having an audience but because their budget was just too high (ahem ANGEL).
Fun shows in the Fox line-up include:
  • The New Girl with Zooey Deschanel, a favorite of mine, looks like a quirky comdey that I might want to check out
  • Another great comedy chick - Jamie Presley, stars in I Hate My Teenage Daughter seems like a hilarious new addition to Fox's line-up.
ON NBC:

Grimm
- Friday's on NBC

CSI meets Alice in Wonderland, NBC's GRIMM is an odd take on the ever-popular crime drama. Take CSI and put a werewolf as the perp, you now have Grimm.
I'm a sucker for those crime dramas and I'm also a sucker for fairy tale terrors, so this looks like it should be a shoe-in for best show of the season.
Other shows that beg to be checked out:
  • Vintage, sexy shows are in, Pan-Am, Mad Men - NBCs answer to this is The Playboy Club
  • UP ALL NIGHT writen by SNLs Emily Spivey looks like the family comedy of the season. Looks funny, but I don't know if I'll be checking this one out.
What are you excited about this FALL?? Did I miss any?

I am very excited for the Secret Circle. When I read L.J Smith's books it was my favorite of hers.

@cait - I don't remember that one. Was that in one of her Night World books? I made it through a few of them, but I don't think I've read all of them.

So much good stuff! I'll be checking out The Secret Circle, Pan-Am and The River. I hadn't heard of The River before you're post, so thanks for that! OMG - no, I haven't been living under a rock, I live in Ireland, so it's difficult to keep up with the US TV news! :) Bookmarking this!

I'm really looking forward to A Gifted Man and Grimm. A Secret Circle sounds cool! I hope it's as good as The Vampire Diaries. I don't care for Pretty Little Liars, but that's just me. The books are good though!

I'm interested in Grimm, but I'm afraid it won't make it through a season with that channel. Same with Terra Nova.

Hell yes to Once Upon a Time...it has my girl, Ginnifer Goodwin in it. :D And the more I see about Grimm the more interesting it looks.

That is a HUGE budget for Terra Nova!

These all look interesting. Never read the Secret Circle books. Yet that one seems to intrigue me the most for some weird reason.

New shows I'm excited for this season: Once Upon a Time, The Ringer, The Secret Circle, Charlie's Angels, Pan Am (I'm hoping this will tide me over til Mad Men returns), Terra Nova, The Lying Game, and The New Girl.
Shows I already watch that are returning: Castle, Glee, Dancing with the Stars, Doctor Who, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Middle.
No, I have no clue when I'm going to find time to watch all of this either. Damn TV why must you look so good this year?

I'll be watching 'Once Upo a Time' and 'Secret Circle', too. I'm very happy that Supernatural and Vampire Diaries will be back on soon. Now, we just need a release date for the newest season of 'The Amazing Race' and I'll be content!

The Secret Circle. Hey, the guy from The Secret Circle looks like the law professor of Marnie from Hellcats. Now, I'm definitely seeing love that actor.

Thanks for the lineup! I haven't heard or seen anything about most of these. I'll definitely be checking out Grimm and Once Upon a Time. I haven't even heard of those!

I'm interested in "Once Upon A Time" (I *think* Ginnifer Goodwin is in this one, and I really like her!) and "Terra Nova." And "X-Factor," which you didn't mention, but Simon and Paula will be reunited and that will be AWESOME!

Yes, I like Simon Cowell. You take your bearded old dudes and I'll take snarky British millionaires. :)

*drool* I'm a little bit of a tv-junkee and I've been watching all the promos, just hoping that my dvr won't explode come this fall!--There are a lot of good looking shows, but I have a feeling it's going to be like last fall, where they cram a whole bunch of newbies in with the old favorites, and start cutting after the first week--I hate to be a h8r, but when they have so many things with such promise, I wish the networks would give shows a real chance to work--it's like airlines overbooking flights, and just really turns me off.

The Secret Circle is the one I'm flip-flopping about--It wasn't part of Nightworld--It was an earlier trilogy of L.J. Smith's around the same time as The Vampire Diaries--and it was always my favorite series--In the books, you need 12 for a coven, but I heard it's going to be 6 for the show--I'm sure the show will be awesome, but sometimes it's hard to watch the changes--They re-issued the books a couple years ago, but so far I haven't seen ebooks--I'm hoping they'll put them out there when the show starts

Definitely excited by Once Upon a Time and Grimm--I've adored retold fairytales ever since I discovered Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling's "Snow White, Blood Red" series as a teen.

But I'm absolutely not down with H8Rs. There's already SO MUCH negativity on the net and on TV. Why do we need to add to it? The more attention we give to these small-minded, petty cowards who are only brave enough to give their opinions behind the safety net of an IP address, the more people will be inspired to follow in their ridiculous footsteps. Most of the crap they say isn't worth reading anyway, so why oh why is the CW giving them a TV show???

Smiles!

Thanks everyone for visiting! There are so many good shows out there, I know. I think it was like this about two seasons ago where there were so many really good looking shows. I hope they last.

I know what you mean @Lori - but I think the show is more about a retaliation of the celebs to the blogs and trash mags, to confront them in person so they can't hide behind their IPs. Like say it to my face...kind of thing. Don't think I'll watch it, not one for reality tv, just thought it was a different concept.
