Sherrilyn Kenyon's Invincible Trailer

Need it. Want it! Must lick cover.

Just when he thought things couldn’t get any worse...

Nick Gautier’s day just keeps getting better and better. Yeah, he survived the zombie attacks, only to wake up and find himself enslaved to a world of shapeshifters and demons out to claim his soul.

His new principal thinks he’s even more of a hoodlum than the last one, his coach is trying to recruit him to things he can’t even mention and the girl he’s not seeing, but is, has secrets that terrify him.

But more than that, he’s being groomed by the darkest of powers and if he doesn’t learn how to raise the dead by the end of the week, he will become one of them...

No Mercy by Sherilyn Kenyon

No Mercy by Sherilyn Kenyon

PJVs QUICKIE POV: A great addition to the Dark Hunter universe, No Mercy is hard hitting, sexy and intense. There were a few little plot flaws that had my brain churning, but nothing to sneeze at.

REVIEW: Samia is our Dark-Hunter of choice in No Mercy. An Amazon, she became a Dark-Hunter when her and her family were murdered. In the thousands of years that she has been alive she has lived a fast life with no affection, haunted by the love she lost so long ago and the power of Psychometry that she possesses.

Dev Peltier is a bear shape-shifter. Now the guardian of Sanctuary after his mother died. He has guarded the neutral bar for over 200 years but his restless spirit has him looking to move on - and then Samia speeds into his life. Who can resist a sexy Amazon on a motorcycle?

The problem lies in the fact that Samia can't touch anyone without seeing everything about them. Her feet cannot even touch the floor bare without being overwhelmed by past occurrences. This has left her abstinent in her long life and a bit on the prickly side. All her passions go into killing, which is why she is one of the elite of the Dark Hunters, the Dogs of War.

When it starts to become apparent that the daimons are in possession of new sources of powers, mainly the ability to walk in daylight, Samia must find out what is going on. In order to do this she tries to "read" Dev and comes up with nothing. He is like her "null". Could it be possible that she has finally found a man that she can touch and be touched by that she can't read?

Couple of problems. She's a Dark-Hunter, he's a were. That can't mix. Second, something wicked is brewing in Daimon world and they have Samia as a major target.

Kenyon's writing is as always spot on. She takes this Dark-Hunter world to a whole new level. Just when you think it should be getting boring she throws in a fun new character and it is great. This is what keeps this series great, a new character for each book, instead of the same characters over and over again.

I really enjoyed Devereux Peltier - I even like his name. Being from New Orleans I know a Devereux and a Peltier - how fun is that? I wonder how SK pronounces it - but we do it DEV - A - ROW, sometimes dropping the A. Peltier is PEL-SHAY.

Dev was a great character, funny, sexy and a bit crazy. Samia was a tough and broken and deep. Their pairing was an excellent read.

My problem arose with Samia's power. Psychometry. The ability to read objects with your hand or skin. Samia was so bad off with her Psychometry that she had to Archeron conjure all of her possessions that she touched without her gloves. Even if she rubbed up against something she would be overwhelmed by readings. So Archeron would conjure all her clothes and personal objects that touched her body and Samia would grow all her own food because she couldn't even eat things without getting a reading.

With this extreme case of Psychometry I over thought things. I just didn't think it was possible to live like this - and then began thinking, well poor Archeron had to be doing a lot of conjuring for Samia. Did he conjure her bed, sheets, bathtub, soap, towels, make-up? Then I got to thinking even worse things? Do Dark-Hunters have a monthly visitor? Does she have to ask Archeron to conjure feminine products? There were a few references to she can't have a man so battery power is how she handles things. Ummm...I can't imagine having to ask Archeron to conjure up a battery-powered man replacement.

"Archeron...I'll take one like this...yeah the one in pink with the nodes all over it and the 4-speed setting."

That had me cracking up. But, kind of put a chink in the story for me. It really wasn't a big thing though, just thought I would mention it because I found it so hilarious thinking of all the things poor Archeron would have to conjure up for her.

Great book though, and a must-read for SK fans. Her Dark-Hunter series seems to not have lost steam - keep 'em coming!

RECOMMENDATIONS: Adults only series. Fans of the Dark-Hunter should definitely read. You also really don't have to read early books in the series SK has a wonderful way of explaining the world without seeming redundant. This allows readers to pick up any of her books and just get immersed in the series.

Here is the recommended reading order if you do want to start from the beginning though:

#1 Night Pleasures (Kyrian & Amanda)
#2 Night Embrace Hardback (Talon & Sunshine)
#3 Dance With The Devil (Zarek & Astrid)
#4 Kiss of the Night (Wulf & Cassandra)

#6 Seize the Night (Valerius & Tabitha)

Sherilyn Kenyon Signing

I have only read a few books by Ms. Kenyon, but as you guys know, I've been really excited about Infinity - and half way through it, I'm enjoying. When I was told about her visit to New Orleans, I thought I would attend. I'm going to make it a point to visit the authors that come near that are within my genre whether read or not because I think it is wonderful that they have come to my little town, low literacy rate or not. :)

I don't think I was prepared for the intensity of this visit. There are some die hard fans out there that drive miles and miles to see SK.  The girls in the line ahead of me were dressed in their corsets and black stockings with stacks upon stacks of their books, getting their boyfriends to get the extra books signed. (pictured below)

The girls behind me were from the fan club and also members of the role playing groups on facebook. I completely looked like I had no clue with them. They were spouting off names and things and I was just like "uh-huh, uh-huh." I really had no clue that role playing these characters was such a big deal, or at least to a few.

SK was very nice and seemed to have the crowd laughing (I wouldn't know the funnies because of stinky B&N - but I'll get into that later). Here entourage was also pretty entertaining and they had tons of giveaways - TShirts, buttons, posters, fake tattoos.

Which leads me to Barnes & Noble and their wonderful management of this event. FAIL. They had SK in the main aisle, shoved all the way to the back with the manga...and half the main aisle clear to accommodate the chairs. They expected a big crowd, the manager had told me so when I went in to ask if I could bring in "old" copies. But, what did they do with that over flow? They stuck us in the side aisles hidden by books. Quite lovely, so my few was shelf on one side, shelf on other side, corsets in front. (They were lovely corsets though) But no view of SK and I could barely hear her. Not to mention the wait for her and then the entire Q&A I stood there - so that was like 2 hours standing there staring at a shelf.  They did bring around tasters of cookies and fraps, which was nice. But I didn't come there to get tasters! I came there to hear a prolific writer speak - and all I heard was "wah wah wah, ha ha, wah wah wah, clap clap." (pictured to left, me peaking around the manga barrier to see if I can catch a glimpse of SK)

When I did get her to sign the books, SK was very nice, she seemed very patient with her overeager fans and would get pictures with them and answer any questions... there were hundreds of people and she took the time to shake your hand say a few words and sign your books. Very impressed with her, not so with B&N.

Stay tune for later this week, I will be giving away the signed copy of Born of Night that I bought - and the swag that I picked up.

Infinity by Sherilyn Kenyon - Excerpt, Trailer & Song Download

Sherilyn Kenyon's foray into Young Adult, Infinity: Chronicles of Nick is releasing tomorrow and the excitement is in the air.

For one she will actually be in New Orleans on Friday for a signing and I can't wait.  Will anyone else be there?

Secondly, If I'm not mistaken, the back drop of this novel will be in New Orleans. Much props for my city.  So excited to read. I'm soooo tempted to push everything aside and start this as soon as I get home.

Also, you guys need to go check out the web site. There are so many cool features, like Nick's New Orleans which is a walking tour. You can create your own Zombie app.  Really cool fun stuff to play around with: http://www.officialsanctuary.com

To celebrate tomorrow's release of Infinity: Chronicles of Nick, here is the trailer, and links to read and excerpt and download the song on the trailer.

Whispered Lies by Sherrilyn Kenyon & Dianna Love

Whispered LiesWhispered Lies by Sherrilyn Kenyon & Dianna Love
Review copy provided by Simon & Schuster.

PJVs QUICKIE POV: Even though this particular series keeps popping up on PNR genre lists and amazon.com PNR listmania fun, this is not what I would call a PNR. My only explanation I can come up with would be because the big name at the top of the book...pause for effect... Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of the masters of that genre. So, now that we cleared that up, I have stepped out of my usual genre and dabbled in a bit of romance. PJ Fact #69 sugar and spice romance and chick lit kind of bores me. This one wasn't that bad though, luckily Kenyon has the flavor that gives this particular romance a little more spice than the usual cut and dry romance that is peddled by authors such as Roberts and *gasp* Sparks.  There was a bit of violence that kept me interested, and the male protagonist was hotter than hot...but Gabrielle the heroine just left me feeling, well like I should join a feminist movement or something. Which is my usual reaction to romance heroines.

REVIEW: The series focuses on an acronym agency called BAD  (Bureau of American Defense) and the BAD boys and girls that protect the US government from SUPER VILLAINS and TERRORIST, kinda like GI JOE. Agent Carlos Delgado, is a smoking hot Latino macho man and former cartel family member and the star of our novel. He is placed as lead on a mission to rescue a kidnapped teenager from the dastardly terrorist movement that call themselves the Fratelli.  The BAD agents are flying blind, going on the word of a cyber criminal/informant, code name MIRAGE, and Carlos is not to happy about this.  Mirage knows too much to not be a criminal, so after the teen is rescued, Carlos makes it his mission to apprehend Mirage and pump the informant for all that they know.

Unfortunately for Carlos, Mirage happens to be shy, recluse Gabrielle Saxe, descendant of French royalty and daughter of French political big wig, oh and he thinks she's pretty hot too, so pumping her for knowledge turns out to be rather difficult. Things turn even more difficult when Gabrielle talks Joe (BADs leader) into letting her infiltrate the school where the teens are disappearing from, in exchange for her freedom.  Carlos must accompany her...and try as he might he just can't resist Gabrielle's lure.

Well written and the plot flowed nicely, this novel kept me entertained, but in the end left me lacking. There were a few plot holes that I thought were rather ridiculous, that fans of Tom Clancy and other Spy greats might turn their nose up to.  But it is what it is, and the BAD agents are more on the lines of Vin Diesel and not Harrison Ford. And if I'm reading a sex scene I would so rather picture Vin instead of Harrison...no offense Mr. Ford, you look good for your age, but... Speaking of the sex scenes, for the length of the novel, the hot level could have gone up a bit.  Carlos and Gabrielle were just...well cut and dry. Which brings me back to the basis of this review. A good, typical romance story, with a bit of action and espionage thrown into the mix to liven things up.

Which leads me in another direction, why are romance heroines always these wilting flower, quaking virgin chicks? This is the whole reason my taste lead me toward the Urban Fantasy persuasion and PNR genres.  Every now and again I would read a romance where the heroine was kick buttesque...but as soon as the bad boy swept in she turned to a wilting puddle of jello...and to boot revealed herself as a virgin that was saving herself for Mr. Perfect. Cue Mr. Perfect...who steps in knocks the chick on the head and spits, "Mine."

I will probably read another BAD novel, like I said entertaining...and I can't wait for a kick butt chick to pop up.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Fans of Nora Roberts, you will probably like this one. This is also adult fiction, rated R.
