Our Feature  - obsession with books

I'm a Spanish girl living in Switzerland that loves to read almost any kind of book. I write down the ideas and thoughts I have and I care for people. Need a friend? Need someone to talk to? Try with me :D

I like having people around, reading and having fun. I also like to travel a lot and my biggest dream is to go back to Brasil and live there again. It's such a wonderful country!

Q. Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?

Yes, I do, I used to read a lot of books over and over again before I became a pesky book blogger. One of which is Twilight, for some reason that first book is like crack. I'm rather embarrassed about it, but hey, it is what it is right. I don't think I need to tell you about it though, pretty much that descriptor is a given. I also tend to reread Ender's Game a lot -- and if you are looking for a male led dystopian (questionable genre)/scifi/coming of age - that is a good choice. Excellent choice.

Yes, I would like to make a science fiction reality, how cool would that be? The future as proposed by say Orson Scott Card, in his Ender's Game series, where humans can travel from world to world, settling different planets. How cool would that be?

Our Feature  - Holjo (Pedantic Phooka)

I am an Account Executive and Mom by day and a book addict by night.  You see, I have a touch of insomnia... which means that I often find myself needing something to keep me occupied long after normal people are asleep.  I love to read, especially an intense paranormal series, during the wee hours of the night.  If it is a really good book, I might look over at the clock at 6am and realize that I didn't sleep at all!  I believe that is why God invented coffee.

I started blogging because I didn't have anyone in my daily life to talk to about the books I love to read.  I'd finish an awesome book and be dying to talk about it, but couldn't get it out!  Blogging and writing reviews is my way of getting closure to the stories I read.  I find that I need that in order to start something new.  It has been great fun so far!!

Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story?  If so, which one??

Elixir by Hillary Duff - I want the bad guys to win just so they could kill everyone in the book and end it all - so there wouldn't be a follow-up and I wouldn't have to read anymore. Bleh...no more immortality for you...die die die.

Our Feature  -- Louise from Book Bliss

Hi! My name's Louise and I'm the blogger behind BookBliss. I've always had a love of reading, when I was at primary school they actually ran out of books for me to read, as did my local library, I had to travel into town to the 'big' library in order to get books. Due to my love of reading I studied literature at university and hated it, although I enjoyed a lot of the books, I don't like reading because I have to and I don't like the in depth dissection of the books. I prefer to read a book to enjoy it and then be able to say what I liked about it without having to do an in-depth analysis.

When moving house recently my friend was amazed at how many books I had (a double book case full), I thought this was quite normal and that everyone would have bookcases full of books, apparently it's not. Around the same time I got asked to join Amazon Vine where in exchange for reviews you get certain products provided, they're primarily ARC's so I was made up, when I googled a lot of the books to see what people thought of them I discovered this whole book blogging world, I'm a top 1000 reviewer on Amazon but it had never occurred to me that I could do a blog as well. Throughout my family and in the office I'm known as the person to ask for a book recommendation, as I not only consider what I like but have a good feel for what other people will enjoy. My uncle loves the fact that I buy him books each year that he's never heard of as they're not chart toppers, yet he loves them. I figured if all these people like what I'm saying then it must be ok and so I launched BookBliss.

I read a huge variety of books although my favourites would be mystery/thriller and chick lit - an obvious connection! I have noticed that I've started to read different books since I started blogging as there's so many people saying about wonderful YA and paranormal books which I'd never have previously considered but I'm finding that I'm really enjoying them.

Q. How many books do you read in a week? And in what format do you read them, or listen to them?

Our Feature  -- Ninja Girl from Ninja Girl Reads

Hi there, Ninja Girl here. I started a blog about three months ago called Ninja Girl Reads where I review mostly YA and paranormal titles. Growing up I was one of those kids who hated reading, absolutely refused to pick up a book unless it was assigned in school. Then a guy named Harry Potter came along, and I caught the book bug. It was like a whole new world opened up, and I just couldn't get enough. I'm an aspiring author who reads too much, sleeps too little, and loves finding the next series or single title that'll keep me up nights. I also love finding awesome book blogs, commenting, and stalking them to my heart's content. So if you've got any amazing recs (books or blogs), I'd love to hear them!

My favorite authors include Meg Cabot (always makes me laugh), Elizabeth Scott, and J.K. Rowling on the YA front, Patricia Briggs, J.R. Ward, and Susan Elizabeth Phillips for adult. I'm basically addicted to The Black Dagger Brotherhood series, in love with Zsadist, want my own brother to take home etc. But who doesn't, right? Can't get enough of anything paranormal/superhero-ish. Mainly because in my head I am one (Note: for proof see Ninja Girl profile photo). I'm still learning the ways of the blog-o-verse, but I hope you'll stop by and take a look.

Q. It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...

Quirky Parajunkee habits:

1. I like the smell of tires. Anyone familiar with Sam's Club. As you exit you pass the tires for sale. I love leaving Sam's Club.
2. I usually commemorate a life-changing event with a tattoo. I have not gotten one yet for the birth of my child because I can't design anything that would be substantial enough to represent my child ;). I'm thinking of getting a Parajunkee tattoo instead...
3. I read like five books at a time. I have an #audiobook playing (The Magnolia League), a hard copy (Invincible: The Chronicles of Nick), on Kindle (Wings), on iPad (The Girl in the Steel Corset) and finally on the puter (Blood Red Road) its completely ADD
4. I still believe I'm going to develop a superpower. I'm hoping for telekinesis. 
5. I'm a total insomniac. I have to meditate to fall asleep. Usually I "write" a story in my head. I plan to one day actually write out one of these stories but I keep starting new ones, so I can never follow one to a conclusion. That ADD showing it's nasty head again.

Al @ Magnet 4 Books

Hi! My name is Al. I am 22 years old (23 next month!), and I'm a junior in college. I'm majoring in Psychology, and minoring in creative writing. My love for reading started at a VERY early age, and has only grown since, which led me to my love of writing. Although I'm going to school to be a therapist, I still have this *dream* to be published one day!

I have been blogging for ABOUT a month and a half, but have been very fortunate to have everyone's awesome support! I have met so many awesome people through blogging! When I decided to start my blog, I'd just finished Hex Hall, and I desperately needed someone to talk to about it. But, even after i talked (a little) about it to a blogger I'd been following, it wasn't enough! I had more to say! So, with that my blog was born! I still can't get over how amazing people have been! My favorite author is Sarah Dessen, but I have MANY favorite books! (Hunger Games, Hex Hall, Delirium, etc.) I'm currently reading Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, and I am LOVING it. It is so adorable!  I review MOSTLY YA with the occasional adult fiction. I'm not too picky on the genre of YA, but lately I am really loving dystopian novels (as you can see from my current favorite books!)

Q. Circle time! Time to share. What character in a book would you most like to be, what character in a book would you most like to date?

I'll stick to the a couple I adore. I want to be Mac when I grow up --- and put my hands on Barrons. Is that predictable?

Jess from Gone With the Words

Hi everyone! I’m Jess and I’m behind the “Gone with the Words” blog! I haven’t always been a reader, I was in Middle School (or Junior High to some of you), but lost interest in High School. It all changed in 2009 when I bought Twilight....and read it in a matter of hours. I then scrambled to get my hands on the rest of the series and didn’t leave my house all weekend. The rest is history. I was in love with books once again.

After reading about 200 books last year alone I decided to begin a blog where I could talk about them. Thus, Gone with the Words was born in January. At that time it wasn’t called that though, it was called “Read? Don’t Mind if I Do...” but wasn’t in love with that name. So I held a poll that included names suggested by other bloggers and Twitter friends, and that’s how I got the name for my blog. As for which genres I like, it’s evolving the more I read. I love Paranormal/Fantasy & Contemporary YA and Romance the most though. I also really like Urban Fantasy. If it’s a series, that’s even better.

Q. How did you come up with your blog name?

Mine is rather stupid. You see I tend to be that person that stuffs things together to make new and interesting things. Or just silly names - which seems to be trendy for the last decade especially with celeb names. So like, I was trying to choose what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said to myself:

"Well I like computers. Total computer dork. And I like art. So that makes me...the perfect Computer Graphic Designer!" That was random, but true.

How does this translate to a name...well I like paranormal stuff and I'm a book junkie, so...I shortened it changed the ie to ee...just for shits and giggles and viola' Parajunkee as a handle. Tack on the View because of course the blog is my opinion and there you have it. Parajunkee's View.

One thing though. The linky for hops seems to have gone and started charging. $25.00 a year. And while I would normally just pay for it, the little cuz is getting married in March --- and I have a month filled with showers and one out of state bacholorette party at the end of this month that I'm saving all my nickles for. Ruby of Ruby Reads

I’ve been an obsessive reader since I was quite small. I still remember furtively pouring over the early readers from my childhood, when I was supposed to be doing addition with exchanging. My tastes have progressed since then, though I went through all the usual reading stages for a girl of my generation (the Sweet Valley books, Nancy Drew, the Babysitter’s Club). One thing has remained constant: I like my books with a touch of romance in them. It can be as subtle as a hint that two characters in a children’s book will grow up and marry, but it has to be there. “Anything with a smidge of romance” is my reading philosophy, but of late, I’m focused on Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Teen/YA fiction. Though, I’ve been hankering after some good ole’ Romantic Suspense since reading Pamela Clare’s Naked Edge. But, seriously, if I tripped over a book that was lying in the street, I’d probably remain on the ground, reading it, if it so much as hinted at a romance. I’ll wander off any path if doing so leads me to a book.

I started Ruby’s Reads last year, mainly from a desire to be part of the book blogosphere. I’d been lurking for quite a while and thought I might as well have a go at participating. It’s been fun, frustrating and exhilarating all at once. My biggest challenge so far was making the jump from Wordpress to Blogger. You’ll be glad to know that my hair has begun to grow back from that experience. When I’m not reading or blogging, I’m usually doing one of three things: teaching (my day job), cooking (one of my recurring fantasies is owning a cupcake shop called Rubycakes), or chatting with a friend at a coffee shop (off the beaten track coffee shops are another obsession). I also have a darling, six-month old niece who is the current love of my life. Someday, I hope to be able to say that about a grown man. But, given the nature of my reading philosophy, I bet you’d already guessed that. 

I want to thank Rachel at Parajunkee’s View for featuring my blog this week! I was thrilled to be chosen. I hope you’ll all stop by my blog. Hopefully, you’ll see something that interests you enough to come back again. Yes, that was a hint.

What is your favorite romance hero-type? Stereotype wise. Do you like the strong silent type or the brute macho man?

I hate to say it, but I like my men big, tough and a little bit on the aggressive side. That's why I like those shifter boys -- compared to the emo-sensitive vamps. (The BDB boys --- well those are the perfect vampires)

Hello fellow bloggers! My name is Savannah and the truth is.....I'm a book nerd. I love to read! I started my blog because my husband said that I should write this down or post it somewhere. And in that moment, I had an epiphany and decided to start this blog. I read Young Adult Literature. Why? To me it is the one the captures me the most. I love reading about drama, secrets, and most all love a book that plays with my emotions. I love books that have bitten me. You know those books? Ones that you can't just read once, but read over and over again? Well, I have read several books like that and that is how I got my name for my blog. I also do giveaways, interviews, etc.

A little info about me: I am 25 years old (will be 26 next week!), married, and have one cute little boy. I live by the beach and enjoy spending time with my family. But nothing ends my day more after working, cleaning, being a wife and mom, then to cuddle up in bed and read a good book.

My name is Bailey and I am obsessed with books and reading! I started my book blog to get my opinions of books out into the world. Hi!  I'm Angela.  I run the book blog Reading Angel.  I mainly review YA books, but I also read and review paranormal and urban fantasy.  I've been blogging for awhile but didn't get really serious about it until the beginning of the year.  I absolutely love running my blog.  Getting to talk about the books I love with people who love books like I do is one of my favorite things!

I'm 25 years old and have a 7 year old son.  I married my high school sweetheart my senior year and we are still happily married.  My husband works as an electrician in the coal mines, which is super scary.  I plan to go to college soon, but just can't make up my mind what I want to go for, but I know I want it to be for something I'm passionate about!  I live in a small town in West Virginia where everything is beautiful and scenic.  Only problem is there is only one sad little bookstore, which is why I love my kindle and instant book shopping!

My name is Joy. I'm the mother of three rambunctious boys under the age of ten. I have an awesome husband who entertains them when I need to hole myself up in a room and write. I write Christian romance. It gives me a daily dose of girl in this house full of men. And I'm pre-published, which means I haven't found anyone to buy my baby yet. But I will. Someday I'll get the call, and when I do I'll blab all about it on my blog.


Not only do I write inspy romance, I also love to read it- especially ones with a little kick. I started blogging three months ago to build a community of edgy inspirational romance fans. Once Upon a Chapter was co-created by Lisa and Stephanie so that we could have a place dedicated to our shared passion: the written word. Both of us love to read as much as we can and through our blog we hope to inspire readers to pick up a great book and share it with others they know. We will review and recommend books that we ourselves have enjoyed, yet are not afraid to disclose which books you might not want to try! We review new releases and also any classics that you may have missed, or want to pick up again. Basically, we try to make our site a fun place for everyone to read about and discuss our favorite subject: Books!
We love to read anything in the romance genre. Both of us try to read a little bit of everything, such as mainstream fiction, but our main focus is on romance novels. We read historical romance, romantic suspense/mystery, paranormal romance and contemporary romance. In other words, if it has a hero and a heroine...we’ll read it!

Hi Missie...tell us a bit about your reading addiction...

As a kid, I read all the time, and I was even a 'library helper,' you know, where you get to school early just to help put books back in their place. I remember being so proud to have been picked for the job from a group of willing volunteers.  But in high school and college, I lost touch with reading for pleasure; if it wasn't 'required reading' I didn't have time for it.  There was even a period in my life when I was studying so much that I actually considered reading as being stressful.  Once I finished my graduate degree, I wanted a break from anything having to do with words on paper.  But slowly, I started picking up books again.  All kinds of books, a variety of genres, and I realized how much I missed reading and how much I enjoyed it. 

After that, I felt so unread and decided I wanted to do something about it.  So I jumped back into reading with a renewed passion by joining a local book club and even taking some literature courses.  Now that I've learned more, I feel like there is nothing I won't try when it comes to genres.  Yes, I love and probably even favor PNR and UF, but I also really like non fiction, contemporary, YA, mystery, humor, and of course, I can't forget the classics.  Now it feels like with each book I read, I'm developing relationships with stories, some meaningful, some as a passing fancy, and I'm loving it!

Why Jenny Loves The Supernatural...

Who doesn’t want to escape from their life every once in a while? Go someplace where work stress, credit card bills, and family discord can’t touch us? I think that’s why I’m such a huge fan of paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres. What’s missing my project due date compared to battling a horde of the undead? Not as big of a deal, that’s what. Reading a chapter or two in one of these books helps me put things in perspective and gives me a mini-vacation in the middle of the workweek.

I personally blame Jeaniene Frost for my paranormal addiction. I read her Night Huntress series and fell instantaneously in love with Bones (honestly, who didn’t?). Once I read her, I scoured the internet for recommendations similar to her series and was soon hooked on J.R. Ward, then progressed to urban fantasy greats like Ilona Andrews and Patricia Briggs. Now, I read anything I can get my hands on and hope some of the books I review give others ideas as well. After all, passion does love company!
