Feature & Follow My Book Blog #64

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

First I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone for participating in this meme. It made the short list for BEST MEME - Book Blogger Appreciation Week Awards and it wouldn't have gotten there without your votes and nominations! You guys rock! We didn't win the award, but the short list is pretty awesome! Thank you guys! Without your participation and support it wouldn't be on the list XOXO!

If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, myself of course and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Now to make this #FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the drop down link above FEATURES > Feature & Follow Friday and get on the waiting list!  It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Our Feature  - obsession with books

Photobucket

I'm a Spanish girl living in Switzerland that loves to read almost any kind of book. I write down the ideas and thoughts I have and I care for people. Need a friend? Need someone to talk to? Try with me :D

I like having people around, reading and having fun. I also like to travel a lot and my biggest dream is to go back to Brasil and live there again. It's such a wonderful country!

Q. Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?

Yes, I do, I used to read a lot of books over and over again before I became a pesky book blogger. One of which is Twilight, for some reason that first book is like crack. I'm rather embarrassed about it, but hey, it is what it is right. I don't think I need to tell you about it though, pretty much that descriptor is a given. I also tend to reread Ender's Game a lot -- and if you are looking for a male led dystopian (questionable genre)/scifi/coming of age - that is a good choice. Excellent choice.

Q. It's that pesky magic book fairy again! She has another wish: What imaginary book world would you like to make a reality?

Yes, I would like to make a science fiction reality, how cool would that be? The future as proposed by say Orson Scott Card, in his Ender's Game series, where humans can travel from world to world, settling different planets. How cool would that be?

Our Feature  - Holjo (Pedantic Phooka)

Pedantic Phooka
I am an Account Executive and Mom by day and a book addict by night.  You see, I have a touch of insomnia... which means that I often find myself needing something to keep me occupied long after normal people are asleep.  I love to read, especially an intense paranormal series, during the wee hours of the night.  If it is a really good book, I might look over at the clock at 6am and realize that I didn't sleep at all!  I believe that is why God invented coffee.

I started blogging because I didn't have anyone in my daily life to talk to about the books I love to read.  I'd finish an awesome book and be dying to talk about it, but couldn't get it out!  Blogging and writing reviews is my way of getting closure to the stories I read.  I find that I need that in order to start something new.  It has been great fun so far!!

Q. Have you ever wanted a villain to win at the end of a story?  If so, which one??

Elixir by Hillary Duff - I want the bad guys to win just so they could kill everyone in the book and end it all - so there wouldn't be a follow-up and I wouldn't have to read anymore. Bleh...no more immortality for you...die die die.

Our Feature  - Lisa @ Lisa Loves Literature

First HUGE apology to Lisa - sorry I messed up the posts.

I have been addicted to books since my mom bought me the first 20 books in the Nancy Drew series when I was like 7 years old.  I know I have a problem, if I walk by books anywhere, I have to stop and look if possible, even garage sales and the grocery store!  I current am a middle school science teacher, but a few years after I started teaching, I decided to get a Master's degree in library science, and since then I have been searching for a library job.  It is hard to get out of science though.  So along with working at a bookstore part time, I enjoy sharing about the books I read with my students.
I began blogging a few years ago on Live Journal.  I soon moved to a more public blog site, Blogger, when a fellow avid reader that I was one of my managers at the bookstore I work at told me about her blog.  I really read all kinds of books, but have lately, or maybe around the time Twilight came out, really gotten in to Teen or YA books.  There are so many good ones out there it is hard to not just read them all, or try to.  Not sure when this will be posted, so can't really tell what I'm reading now, because I could be many books past when I wrote this originally.  I guess I could say I'm currently reading whatever e-galleys I can get from Netgalley.com, expecially YA books that have yet to be released when possible.  I really want to get my blog up to at least 100 followers because of some publishers on Netgalley look at that before they let you have a copy, and I enjoy meeting people who love to read the same books I read to get their opinions and new ideas to read.

Q. If you could change the ending of any book (or series), which book would you choose? Why and to what?

This is going to be a spoiler fest so try to write the title of the book as a dominant feature - and warn people about spoilers.

I don't have very many series that I want to change up no matter how many books in the series might have upset me with cliffhangers, the ending usually has a wonderful culmination that makes everything make sense (...Shadowfeaver).

TWILIGHT SPOILERS>>>>>
But a last book in a series that I really disliked and was bittersweet was Breaking Dawn. I think it was the ultimate cop-out of Stephanie Meyers to (haven't read the series STOP NOW!!)

for one name the child Reneseme or whatever it was. What was that? And for two, imprint the child on to Jacob.  What an easy way to have Jacob get off of Bella's back and to tie things up so nicely. Easy way out! How did I see it ending? Certainly not with Bella pregnant. I thought it would end in an epic battle on Bella and Edward's return with the Volturi breathing down their backs. Jacob comes back to confront Edward before he turns Bella...they battle. Jacob rips Edwards to shreds, but in the process Bella tries to save him and gets bit by both the vampire and the werewolf. Jacob so torn up by almost hurting Bella runs off to L.A. and ends up imprinting on a Hollywood actress and becoming the next big film star. Bella turns into the first werewolf / vampire hybrid and wreaks havoc because she is torn up over Edward's death.

Vampire hunters descend on her, but she is so strong in her new hybrid state that she takes them down - but in the end causes the government to take notice of her. She is recruited in to a government agency that specializes in tracking bad vampires. Where she finds a niche group of people and a place to be herself...until she finds her husband is not quite dead...

I might have mixed up a story here.

Our Feature  - Caught in the Pages

I have always loved reading, even when I was little.  I was the type who would be reading more than one book at a time, all the time, couldn't get my nose out of a book for anything.  After growing up, life (aka husband, job, had a baby) caught up with me some and I just didn't read like I used to.  I discovered other book blogs by chance and fell in love with the idea of sharing something I love with the world.  I started my blog hoping that if nothing else, I would be motivated to keep reading and reading other blogs would help me to discover great new books.

I am constantly bugging my husband about books and even convinced him to buy me one instead of going to see Transformers 3 (I think I have an addiction).  I am either reading a book, reading about books, or lusting after books.  I also dream of owning a Kindle.  I love anything involving love (yep, just full of love here).  I put the smell of a book up there with the smell of fresh bread and the smell of coffee brewing (don't think I am weird :P).

Q. In books like the Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) series the paranormal creature in question "comes out of the closet" and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish would come out of the closet, for real?

Vampires...HOLLA!!! But not the skeevy ones that just can't help themselves to blood and are like crazy friggy blood sucking machines. No - I think vampires need some free will.

Our Feature  - Belle Books

My name is Emma, I am 24 from Glasgow. Currently in my final year studying tourism with Spanish, and I also speak a little French and Italian. I've been an avid reader since I was young, and since reading the Twilight saga I've found a whole new love for young adult/paranormal romance/vampire books. Harry Potter will always be my favourite series, it literally was my childhood! I even have a Harry Potter tattoo <3

Q. If you could write yourself a part in a book, what book would it be and what role would you play in that book?

People might not assume this about me, but I'm rather political. But, the thing is I'm political in my house, because polite Southern Girls don't discuss politics in public, unless they've had too much to drink. Or so they say. But, mainly I don't want to offend anyone, because political views have become almost like religious or even like racial or sexual stances - the wrong lean might get you ostracized. So, I keep quiet, unless I know I'm in similar company.

I do have a point. Being a lover of dystopian fiction, I would write myself into a dystopian - and yes, you might think I'm crazy. No, I don't want the world as we know it to end! But, really the characters in these books RAIL against the system. They take a stand - and what I would give to have the cojones to do that. Because I think something needs to be done. And I would like to know how I would react? Because everything said and done, would I be the type of person to point to the left and say "He Did It?" Or would I stand up for my beliefs and way of life and say "Hell no"? Even if it were to mean my life was at stake? So write me into The Hunger Games, I'll be part of District 13 - or write me into 1984 and I'll protest against Big Brother...hopefully. Never wanted to be a sheep.

Our Feature  - Steph Likes Books

Because of a failure to post by the other feature...our only feature today is Steph Likes Books...

Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?

The funny funny thing is, I didn't read young adult as a teen. I was reading young adult novels when I was in the age bracket of 7 to 10. By the sixth grade I was reading Stephen King and Dean Koontz. When I was done with the horror genre I went feet first into Fantasy - tearing through series like the Dragon Lance series (I mean Tanis Half-Elven was epic, probably my first fiction crush). When I went through series after series...fantasy was always very close to the  science fiction section, so I began picking up the greats like Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke...and then the fabulous Adams, Keyes, Card,

Our Feature  - Bonnie @ Hands and Home

Above all I am a proud wife and mother who has the privilege of spending my days with my 2 beautiful daughters. Hands and Home combines my 3 passions, my family (including natural family living), creating, and of course my first ever passion, reading.

Reading is such an important part of my day and my favourite place to go with my girls is the library. I read just about anything, I enjoy reading Paranormal/Fantasy, Christian or Literary Fiction, Young Adult, Women’s Fiction (some chic lit), Cultural Fiction, Fantasy... Basically if it is well written with strong characters I will most likely love it!

Q. Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).

I know this might sound silly, but I read the Madeleine L'Engle series, A WRINKLE IN TIME at a young age and it did sort of change my childhood. In the books the parents aren't always right and the children save the day, things aren't what they appear to be and the deeper meanings of the novel were apparent to me as young as I was. It was one of those eye openers...like "You are right!" Parents aren't always right...sometimes kids can make a difference. Well there went my childhood...

Feature & Follow Friday #56

Welcome to Feature & Follow Friday (err Thursday) on Parajunkee.com

Our Feature  - The Book Addicted Girl

Hi, my name's Megan, and I'm a self confessed Book Addict. I talk about books non-stop.  And although my family is bookish, I started to annoy even them with my constant chatter about what I was reading, my favourite characters,  etc.  I started blogging because I wanted to find fellow YA book readers.  And I did!
What makes me different is my insanity.  I read anything - and I mean anything.  I always have two or three books on my person in my ridiculously big bag.  My favourite kind of books are everything paranormal, though recently I've developed a love for contempory, dystopian and historical novels.  A few of my favourites are Vampire Academy, The Mortal Instruments, The Hunger Games, The Iron Fey series, If I Stay, Before I Die and Harry Potter.  I'm currently reading seven books, though I'm concentrating on Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey and Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs.  I can never seem to read just one book at a time...

Q. Let's step away from books for a second and get personal. What T-Shirt slogan best describes you?

After my trip to Vegas...there is only one T-Shirt that would describe me.

Our Feature  - The Bloggers of: We Fancy Books

We Fancy Books

Our blog is a group blog so we have different answers...

Something about us and why we started blogging...

TheJay2xA : Our blog is We Fancy Books; we named it like this because we really love to read books. Our blog is mainly for the three of us. We post MeMes and reviews of what we have just read. What made you start a book blog? Together with my two friends we made We Fancy Books

AddictedToV: I got really into books this year, and now reading has been part of my daily routine. At first I started in Goodreads and was exposed more in books, then I started to write my own reviews too. I also made my own blog eventually, but it was when my friend (in real life) TheJay2xA asked me to collaborate with him for a book blog, and I liked the idea, so here we are now (:

Ere Penera: I was reading too much books the past few days and I can’t help but tweet about how exciting those books were. And then my tweet buddy, Jayjay, asked me to join him in a book blog. And so I said okay even if I didn’t know exactly what’s to be done or written in it. He just told me I’d submit book reviews which was fine with me. But it turned out there are actually lots of other activities in a book blog so I’m starting to learn stuffs about it.

Books we read and favorite genre

TheJay2xA: I personally like Young Adult and Contemporary books, mystery thriller, paranormal romance and dystopian is also some of favorite genre.

AddictedToV: Young adult, science fiction, mystery, romance, dystopian, etc. As long as it’s exciting, entertaining and won’t give me much headache understanding complicated matters, I’m into it.

Era Penera: I really like young-adult fantasy. If it’s full of action or if there are mysteries then it’d be so much better.

Q. Name 3 authors that you would love to sit down and spend an hour or a meal with just talking about either their books or get advice on writing from?

Your Answer Here.

Our Feature  - Angela @ Angela's Anxious Life

Hello fellow bloggers!  My name is Angie, 32, from Colorado and I LOVE to read.  I just started blogging in the past few months and I love it.   I decided to start blogging because I really don't know a lot of people who read so I thought I would blog to find people with my interests. I got tired of talking to people about books who would then look at me with a blank stare!   At first I avoided blogging for a long time because I would go online and see all these wonderful blogs and think there was no way I could set up a web-page like the ones I was seeing.  Then one night I sat down and looked all over the internet till I figured out how to use blogger.  In fact, I received a lot of help from the blogging 101 posts right here at Parajunkee's View!  .  I recently acquired a Nook Color and am LOVING it.  I never thought I would like ebooks at all.  I swore that they weren't for me though I never gave them a chance.  Then I received the Nook for my birthday as a gift and have never looked back!

I read all different genres of books... but not a lot of non-fiction.  I will review YA, Paranormal, Mystery, Horror, Fantasy,  really anything that seems interesting. Aside from blogging I moderate two fabulous groups on goodreads.com.  One is the YA Book Club which has 3000 members now (http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3551.YA_Book_Club) and the Stephen King Fans group which has 2000 members now (http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/203.Stephen_King_Fans).  I am quite proud of both groups since I have worked so hard on them from the beginning.  The groups have grown so much that I recently had to recruit a co-mod for each group to help out!  I have discovered so many books through these bookclubs!  Some of my favorite authors are Charlaine Harris, Stephen King, George RR Martin, RA Salvatore, Rick Riordan, Janet Evanovich, Cassandra Clare, and JK Rowling just to name a few.

What do I do when I are not reading?  Well....  I love to watch TV and Movies, and play video games. I have an Xbox 360, PS3, and a Wii.  I even have a hilarious blog for my Xbox 360 where the Xbox is blogging for me
(http://360voice.gamerdna.com/tag/Estel0212) .  From time to time on my blog you will find reviews for movies, games and TV.  My husband and I head out to the movies every Friday in the summer... and YES we plan to spend two night at the theater waiting for Harry Potter.  I will definitely post some pictures from that adventure.  I also love to go out on the town... ballet, theater, broadway shows, concerts, I am just about up for anything new and exciting.  Plus I love my two kitties and my hubby!  Feel free to stop by my blog... I try to keep it entertaining so prepare to have fun!

Q. What do I do when I are not reading?

I BLOG!!! LMAO And I design. design. design. Ok, well, I'm exaggerating. There is also family time. I have this really adorable 4 year old that takes up a bit of my time. And a really HOT husband who brings me surprise Pina Colodas - which are so much better than flowers.

Our Feature  - Lisa @ Read. Breath. Relax

My name is Lisa, and I blog over at Read.Breathe.Relax. I’m a professional writer/editor and super, mega avid reader. I recently married the love of my life, who I affectionately called Beard or BeardFace.

The other member of our family is an orange tabby cat, Meow Meow. He loves to gallop around our apartment like a horse and wreck havoc on fringed tablecloths and catnip mice. Other than reading, I love writing, editing, scrapbooking, laughing, coffee, raspberry pie, journaling, picking at my nails and collecting quirky friends.

I've been blogging since 2009, but have been posting consistently since this past March. I mainly read and blog about Fantasy and YA books (almost all of the YA books fall in the fantasy genre, too). I particularly love all the Dystopian books out there and have recently fallen in love with Steampunk!

Q. Let's step away from besties...What is the worst book that you've ever read and actually finished?

Mine would have to be ... Vulnerable by Amy Lane

Our Feature  - Erika @ Let's talk about books

Photobucket

Hello wonderful PJV readers,

My name is Erika and I have an addiction to books. Oh sorry, wrong place…

I am addicted to reading and just like any person with a passion for something, I love telling people about the books I read. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone that loves reading as much as I do. My lack of reading buddies forces me to talk my fiancée's ear off with all of my book talk. I am not sure if he processes what I say but at least he nods and smiles in the right parts. Realizing that my fiancée can only take so much, I decided to start a blog. I’ve been Blogging since 2010 but I decided to dedicate more time and commitment to Let’s talk about books about 3 months ago.

Let's talk about books is a blog dedicated to reviewing and talking about... well, books. I love reading just like you (I am assuming since you are reading a blog about books) and began this blog to keep track of what I read, inform others about it and to meet fellow readers and talk about what we read. I read books from different genres as you can see from my posts, so this blog may include contemporary fiction, YA fiction, romance, historical fiction, non-fiction, etc... I'm a lame romantic girl, so you will see that most of the books I read will have some romance. I have many favorite books but it would take hours to list them. I will just name a few that come to mind,  Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, The Mortal Instrument Series by Cassandra Clare, My Name is Memory by Anne Brashares and Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.

I am always doing emergency runs/visits to my nearest Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com, and local library. So if you have any suggestions on what I should read next, just let me know. Do not hesitate to say hello, the reason for my blog is to make friends and discuss what we read.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about me and joining me in talking about books.

Thanks a million to Parajunkee for featuring me. Now I owe her cookies but it’s worth it. J

Q. ACK! Your favorite book/movie character (example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.

I have a lot of book/movie/hotties on my list. And I'm going to be rather cheesy on this, but I have to say I just love Jasper Hale played by Jackson Rathborne. I think it is the fact he goes around holding his breath all the time. That is fun...

And how would I react? Like I normally do when faced with someone I really am excited to see...stammer a lot and blush.

Our Feature  - Mickey @ I'm a Book Shark

I'm A Book Shark
Welcome to the world of Book Sharks!

Mickey is the blogger behind I'm A Book Shark. She really wishes there was a better explanation for why she's a book shark. A new twitter name was needed, and it had to be about her favorite hobby: reading! For whatever reason, sharks also came to mind and a book shark was born.

Mickey has been reading for as long as she can remember. It's her favorite pastime, her go-to activity, her escape from any bad reality. Reading is so awesome that her last name is even Reed! (Spelled wrong for irony of course.) And her first name is actually Michelle, so her name is quite like Richelle Mead. It never gets old!

Her goal this year is 200 books, and she's already 59% there. That's mostly because she reads almost every genre in any age range. She enjoys a good romance, perhaps a comical mystery, or a YA novel with angels and vampires. And audio books are a staple in her life! Mickey has a job where she can listen to books at work, and that makes up a big amount of her reading.

Besides reading, Mickey is a natural reddish-headed mid-twenties entertainment-of-all-kinds lover, girlfriend of boyfriend, mother of reptiles (and a cat), and addict of dessert. Anything chocolate is a welcomed gift in her life. Oh yeah, and she likes to blog. :o)

Q. In light of the Summer Solstice. Also known as Midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale or story that revolves around the fae?

I'll do both. My favorite fairy tale is that of the Little Mermaid. The real one written by Hans Christian Anderson. Taught me not to trust men ;)

Favorite series about fae. I have a bunch. But the numero uno would be the series by Richelle Mead, called THE DARK SWAN series.  As far as young adult series, I will have to go with Julie Kagawa's IRON FAE series.
