Welcome to Feature & Follow Friday (err Thursday) on Parajunkee.com
If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, myself of course and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it'll allow us to show off more new blogs! How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them "hi" in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!
Now to make this #FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the drop down link above FEATURES > Feature & Follow Friday and get on the waiting list! It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Q. How has your reading habits changed since you were a teen? or If you are still a teen what new genres are you in love with currently?
The funny funny thing is, I didn't read young adult as a teen. I was reading young adult novels when I was in the age bracket of 7 to 10. By the sixth grade I was reading Stephen King and Dean Koontz. When I was done with the horror genre I went feet first into Fantasy - tearing through series like the Dragon Lance series (I mean Tanis Half-Elven was epic, probably my first fiction crush). When I went through series after series...fantasy was always very close to the science fiction section, so I began picking up the greats like Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke...and then the fabulous Adams, Keyes, Card, McCaffrey...
Those stayed with be for a long time. My high school years were spent with dragons or in outer space...and continued. The book I brought on the plane as I shipped out for basic training was Starship Troopers and Friday by Robert Heinlein. It wasn't until my twenties...I think I was maybe 21 or so, when my co-worker said, "Rachel, you read all that fantasy crap...what do you think about this Harry Potter kid?" My response was, "Harry Potter who?"
Her son wanted to read the books, I think 2 or three were out by then. It was the only young adult I had read in a long time but I enjoyed the hell out of them. But, I only read HP no other YA. I quickly returned to my new love of Urban Fantasy, Anita Blake, Rachel Morgan...until about four years ago...when a girlfriend of mine said, "Rachel what do you think of this Twilight craziness?" Currently my stack of 80 books sitting behind me in the TBR pile is probably 80% young adult - but still all paranormal, science fiction or fantasy...a girl has to have some standards.

Fun question this week! I'd drifted away from my speculative fiction roots when I left my teens, and it was Twilight that got me back into the non-reality-based genres....which is pretty much all I read now. :)
Old follower, just hopping through to say happy FF.
I think this was a great question! Nice to know I wasn't the only one who did read in my age bracket.

Hi I'm new at this and I was wondering if you could feature my blog...
Thanks!
My blog URL is seeitorreadit.blogspot.com
Back when I was growing up YA was lame. So I too ironically didn't read YA when I was growing up :) Nice to meet ya Steph.
I was never a huge sci-fi lover growing up. I loved HP. However, I have just started getting into the adult sci-fi genre.... and I'm loving it. Ender's Game is by far a fave and I am loving Game of Thrones.
Ha! Yeah. I wasn't big into YA when I was a teen either. All my books were adult fiction (with, maybe, a very few ya here and there).
Here's ours
I love this week's question! There are so many more good things for younger readers these days.

Hey, it's my first time joining in FF. It was a lot of fun. I'm another one of those people that avoided reading in their teen years. The books they assigned us in school just weren't my thing.
Here's my FF
I was the same. I didn't really read YA as a teen. I read fantasy. I can't even remember exactly what. I remember spending a great deal of time making my way through Lord of the Rings and becoming Tolkien obsessed. I only read one or two teen books and very little realistic fiction.
Have a great weekend!

Hi, Rachel! I love your asnwer, and can really relate to it! I sure had the very same experience -- lots of fantasy (Tolkien, Peake, McCaffrey) and SF (Heinlein, Clarke, Bradbury) in my teen years, and now...mostly YA!! I've heard of the Dragon Lance series, but have never read it. Gotta do something about that... I can't get into the horror genre at all, except that I do like vamps and even werewolves, in the paranormal romance genre. (No zombies, though!)
Come check out my FF post!
